Pre-made Sensory Boxes

The other day I was at our local toy store and found an amazing new product that is like a pre-made sensory box. They are called mini sand boxes. You can get them with regular sand or colored sand, and they are themed. The best part about them is that they incorporate motor skills in play. Here is a list of them:

1.     Big Dig Executive Mini Sandbox (price $11 - $16): It comes with a 3.75”H x 5.25”W x 5.25”D wooden box that has white sand, a dump truck, mini rocks, a cone, rake, and shovel. The child can move the truck through the sand, build piles with rocks, and scoop the rocks with the shovel or the rake to put them in the truck.

2.     A Day at The Beach (price $11 - $35); It comes in two sizes 3.75”H x 5.25”W x 5.25”D box or 1 ¼’’H x 9 ¾’’L x 7 ¾’’W wooden box that has white sand, beach chair, umbrella, shovel, bucket, rake, and small sea shells. The child can place the items and hide the shells. Then, they can dig for shells and put them in their bucket.

3.     Executive Tee Time Mini Sandbox (price $11- $16): It comes with a 3.75”H x 5.25”W x 5.25”D wooden box that has white sand, putting green, flag stick, grooming rake, putter, golf ball, and bunker stone. The child can create a course and putting with their own golfing supplies.

4.     My Little Sandbox Mermaid and Friends (price $ 30- $35): It comes with a   10” x 10” sandbox includes a 20” x 20” play mat that has blue sand, mermaid sitting on a rock, shells, fish, turtle, star fish, plant, bucket, shovel, and rake. The child can move the pieces around and scoop up shells to put into the bucket.

5.     My Little Sandbox Dino (price $ 30- $35): It comes with a   10” x 10” sandbox includes a 20” x 20” play mat. It has white sand, three dinosaurs, volcano, tree, rocks, fossils, shovel, and rake. The child can dig  up fossils in the sand.

The child can move bugs through the sand, observe the bugs, and shovel sand into the bucket.

Kids can bury and dig up treasure while moving the figurines around in the sand.

13.  Good Company Grow it Snow Day mini sandbox ($26 -$29):  It comes with a   10” x 10” sandbox with texture play snow, tree, snowman, three deer, a pond, bucket, rake, shovel, and rock. The child can place items, scope up snow and put it in the bucket.


I have already bought two of them for my two children for Christmas. I cannot wait for them to play with them. What a great idea!
