Lateral Lisp? Activities That Encourage Frontal Air Escape

My son has a lateral lisp which makes "s" and "z" sounds very difficult. When he talks, air escapes over the sides of the tongue. When he tries to make these sounds, he can sound like he is spitting due to his lisp. This week his therapist gave me some neat activities to do at home to encourage frontal air escape through play.
  • blow on a pinwheel
  • blow through whistle straws
  • pretend to hiss like a snake
  • whistle or pretend to whistle
  • make a "th" sound and then a "s" sound
  • make a "t" sound and then an "s" sound
  • make a "d" sound and then a "z" sound
We did these activities today and had a blast. They also only took ten minutes to do!
